Romanian teachers discussed about AI in media production and the role of media literacy
Thanks to the IAME network, the International Association for Media Education, a second Tadam workshop was organised in Vaslui, Romania.
On Friday, February 28, 2025, National Audiovisual of Romania, in collaboration with representatives of the Teaching Staff House of Vaslui, offered to the teachers the second TADAM workshop in Romania.
The workshop was entitled ‘The consequences of using artificial intelligence in media production and the role of media literacy’.
26 teachers took part in the workshop. The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness of the use of artificial intelligence in different forms, the use of artificial intelligence models in education, media production and journalistic activities.
Individual and group exercises were carried out, educational resources and artificial intelligence applications were presented, and critical thinking was exercised on videos and deepfakes collected on social platforms.
Ethics, dangers, the need for media education, self-regulation and regulation were discussed.
At the end of the workshop, participants presented their own conclusions, based on their personal experiences and the topics discussed during the workshop.



Conclusions:
Positive aspects:
• using AI for educational purposes;
• AI has access to large volumes of data;
• AI brings increased efficiency and automation;
• it facilitates problem solving on various levels;
• it is available in different forms and has become a constant presence;
• it facilitates learning and adaptation: personalized learning, assistance, adaptation of assessment;
• AI brings creativity: the important thing is to know what to ask for and how to capitalize on it.
Challenges:
• risk of data manipulation and disinformation;
• excessive dependence on technology;
• we use AI, but the sources must be verified;
• it can be addictive, inhibits individual creativity, creates confusion;
• awareness of the importance of interpersonal relationships;
• maintaining balance;
• the need for media literacy: basic skills;
• creating the reflex of basic information (through critical thinking).
Ethical and deontological implications:
• ethical and privacy issues;
• regulations: GDPR, code of ethics, legislative measures;
• ethics and democracy: there are risks;
• solutions to combat negative effects: addiction, dehumanization, identity theft, media aggression, false identity.
